Hi quick question, visit to LFS discovered Interpet "fishbox aquarium" , acrylic(?) with bow front , tempted to use for a shellie tank, just want to know if anyone has ever used them or any experience of them?
Any correspondence greatly appreciated...

Yep I've got the 64l fishbox. it's not acrylic, it's glass and I've been very pleased with it. Obviously doesn't look as swish as a big tank but as my first tank in a while I've been morea than happy with it - just wish I'd bought a bigger tank to start with!

The only thing I really don't like is the lighting, one white bulb and one blue but they have seperate switches so I only ever use the white light. The quality is good - some might say a bit dim but I like it as it looks more natural. I have heard of people replacing the blue with another white though. The filter is an Interpet (3 or 4 not sure) and the heater is an interpet delta therm 75W (I think). We got it on sale as well so I feel we get real value for money.

I have the 48 litre Interpet fish pod. Is this the same as the fish box? I've had mine since August. It's the only tank I've ever had so can't compare it to others, but I really like it. It looks good and comes with everything you need. It comes with a white and blue light for plants and viewing your fish. I think some people replace the blue light with another white one to help plant growth if you want a planted tank, but at the moment I just use the white light and my plants are doing well. It's easy to maintain.

I'd recommend getting the next size up though, the 64 litre if you have the space. Other than that I have no regrets.

Cheers, I had never seen them before until a visit to P@H today , the 64ltr was only £7.00 dearer than the 48 but no stands for the 64. It might sound crazy but I have a 95ltr tank at the moment but looking to downsize for one of the species I have in the main tank at the moment, Neolamprologus Multifasciatus. Should have took a note of the dimensions. Going by your responses it sounds like a solid tank and I have to admit I think it looks pretty stylish too , wasn't sure about the lighting, does the hood make any humming sound when the lights are on, my Elite95 does get a bit noisy cos the starter is built into the hood

Mine doesn't make any humming noise at all when the lights are on. Maybe you could get the 64 from P@H and get the stand from somewhere else? Unless that wouldn't work out cost wise.

Sorry I see in the classified section you are in Ayr... cheers anyway , need to wait till I get cash and see what I am actualy doing, I was supposed to be setting up 4'x1.5'x1.5' but the mrs has just put the clamps on it

I've got the 64L one and it is quite good looking and sturdy as well.

As Lacuna was saying it comes with a blue and white bulb, so not particularly good with plant growth. What i did was i called Interpet and asked for where i could find another white bulb to replace the blue one. Instead of telling me where it is, they send me a new one instead, FOC. Used it for a few weeks but still not satisfied as it doesn't give you enough light for plant growth.

So now i have changed to luminaire and have been really satisfied with it since.

I've got the 48l fishbox and the lights do buzz sometimes. Usually when they're first turned on. If you touch the panel on the top for the lights it normally stops though so isn't a problem for me.

Work at an LFS that sells fishpods.

The lights are great for plant growth, just leave the blue and white on on together. If you don't like the colour rendition just buy another white one instead, or you can even get other cheaper bulbs that fit off the net that have different K ratings.

The lights are just screw-in energy saving bulbs, they have their own little ballast in them, they shouldn't hum at all so I suspect it's something else that's creating the humming.

They are nice little solid tanks, would be easy to set one up for multies, chuck in some shells and a couple of tough plants .

That looks like a tank my friend has, also from p@h. Great looking, but I think the filter is incredibly noisy.

The fish box and fish pod are exactly the same tank the difference is the pod is exclusive to pets at home apparently.
Ive had the 64L one (middle size as they now do a 120L) i loved it, found that the blue light isnt really needed so i unscrewed it and used the white light but loved the tank.
