Interfering Husband

My son was in hospital recently overnight and my husband stayed home to take care of our daughter and pets. He left the lights on the whole time I was gone. He didn't feed them, he didn't check salinity, nothing. When I came home, My house house was trashed, everybody was starving, man fish rats and guines pig.

Sorry I am in a bad mood. It was nice of him to buy you some fish. He must love you or want something. :D

Keeping the water quality pristine is the best way to allow the fish to deal with whatever pathogens might be present. A 50% water change was a good idea. A daily 20-30% water change for a week or so might be nice as well. There is nothing else you can do. As long as you keep the water quality high, you should be fine.

Your husband meant well, give him a pass on this one. At least he got 3 of them instead of just one. :D

yep, thats a point :)

I'm sure I saw someone say once that to truly quarantine a fish and be sure it's disease free, you have to do it for at least 90 days. I'd be more concerned about the water that was tipped in the tank than the unquarantined fish. All you can do is a big water change, keep your eye on your fish and hope for the best.

Thanks for all your advice guys but can I just repeat that my poor abused husband (NOT!!!) thinks I'm thrilled that he got the fish. I wouldn't dream of treating him like some of you appear to think I have when he was trying to do something nice. My main concern was that there were dead fish (more than one apparently) in the tank. I repeat, my wonderful husband is thrilled with himself that he has made wifey so happy. I only posted my concerns here. As for being A.R., I'd rather my mind was put at rest by checking with experienced fishkeepers. I assume that is what this site is about!

I think that it is fine that you asked, and also nice that you were able to contain yourself so that he doesn't feel bad. Unfortunately some spouses do not know (I came home to a red zebra trying to kill my jewel cichlid). It is not AR to voice a concern. At least now you can sleep easy :)

yeah the A.R thing was a little harsh. Just wanted to add I have an interfering Dad. I talk to him about cycling "humf, we never bothered with any of that stuff when I kept fish, why do you need all this water stuff for either. I just used to fill from the tap"

I want a bigger tank .. " what the heck for, there's nothing wrong with the tank you've got and no I won't lend you the extra £20 to get it whilst it's on sale"

"what you put black gravel in there for, it's looks AWFUL ..."

It goes on and on ... he's getting ready to join the other grumpy old gits on that tv program I think lol

Ah thanks guys! Yeah, my dad pokes around in my tank business too and he doesn't even live here! He moved my wood and added a rock he had in his garden that he thought would look nice. And yes, I pretended I was delighted! I'm good at that. ;)

My mom never touches my tanks xD "your tanks, your money, your job." is her motto xD my brother has accidentally smashed a tank (oi....) but otherwise, thankfully none of that, I made sure it was known my fish dont like to play nice xD (bettas and killis) so they wont

Well, now that you know everything is going to be okay, you no longer have to "act" delighted. Now you can genuinely be delighted :)

I gave up on "it's my flat Dad, I'll do as I want" a long time back. Unfortunately my Dad will forever see me as a 5 year old no matter how many more grey hairs and wrinkles I get lol

I'm not very good at pretending to be pleased so good on you!

From the sound of it, you need to act a bit less delighted before one of these well-meaning men actually do something to harm things.

I'm glad to hear that the cories are interacting well together. :good:

my dad cant help himself, im at my mums half the time and im forver coming back to him having changed little things, and constantly walking into my room and just staring at the fish tank, sometimes at the same time as me, he'll just come chill next to me as we watch

pooe guy, wants his own tank but my wicked step mother wont let him yet

All you can really do for the future is teach him. He obviously has taken some interest if he is buying fish for you. My husband has learned a lot from me, and has really taken an interest in it. He won't buy fish anymore without me, but today, he took me to the store to get a pleco for my 55g. And he bought me some snails as I have wanted to get a few for my community tank. My next project is setting him up a demosani tank. And because of this, he is letting me breed some bettas :p

It is, but you could have done it without making your hubby look a total putz ! Anyway I am glad you didn't treat him as badly as your initial post led us all to believe :) It came across all wrong. Probably just the good old written word not really relaying the context in which you meant it :)
