It is summer here in OZ and as usual we have the usual array of insects in the house. I was ignoring them but it has gotten ridiculous...cockroaches, ants, fleas and crickets (and yes my house is clean, its this time of year)....

So I know how to fix it.....that is, put insect bombs around the house, set them off, leave the house and come back after 2-3 hours.

BUT....how the hell am I meant to do this with the fish tanks? Is it feasible to seal the tanks with cling wrap and turn the filters off for 2-3 hours???

HELP!!!!

i know the filters can be off for 2-3 hours, but i'd leave them off for 4-6 just to be sure. i imagine that if you ran an airstone for a couple of days prior, that'd help some too.

i'm not sure about how to best protect the actual water. i suppose if you were to plastic wrap not just the tops but all the way to the base, that'd be pretty airtight... i'm not from that particular area ;) , so i've not had the issue.

I wish you luck with roaches and insect bombs (they never worked for us) as for the risk, I wouldnt. My recommends are if u must FULLY seal the tank for that period plus the airing time and another hour just to be sure (Fully seal by lots of glad wrap or something round the tank).

For roaches goto a supermarket (action here in brissy is best) and get some ATLAS surface spray, kills 'em dead kwiker than hell (doesnt keep 'em away) so follow up with peabo/mortein whatever surface spray and and insect/roach mat (no not roach baits, you put these cardboard like things down under stoves, fridges etc the bugs walk over them get the poison on themselves and kill them selves when next time they preen).

Ants, talcolm powder and surface sprays keep them under control.

Crickets, catchem for free fish food ;)

Fleas if its because of your pets we use advantage (or whatever you have there the flea and wormer drops on the back of the neck) for our cats but find during summer we need to do them every 3 weeks not monthly as stated on most packs/brands

hope this helps
