Injured Trili Cory

Hello,

I've got an injured (I think) trili cory. Ammonia/nitrite are 0ppm. The only aggressive fish in the tank are angels but they have not showed any signs of aggression yet. All other fish are fine. I am wondering if he swam into something or maybe got burnt on the heater...

On his nose there's a long white area like it was rubbed off. His barbels are also short.

Besides keeping the water clean is there anything I can do to help him heal? Should I put all 6 of them in 10g (so he doesn't get stressed being alone)?

He seems ok... he's swimming around but is lethargic and tends to stay in one spot. It's not fuzzy so I don't think fungus.

My 8 3-lined are in my new hospital/breeding tank because 3 of them has short barbels. One of them did have something similar to your but it was white patches/rots in the head which healed by itself eventually. There tank mates were honey gouramis, cherry barbs and a bristlenose pleco. I think mine are recovering in the hospital tank, but can't be sure... at least they are all still alive!

My water parameters were also normal, and no nitrate because it is heavily planted.

I wouldn't even put him through the stress of moving him to a hospital tank. Just keep the water as clean as you can and it should heal on it's own. If you see any signs of infection then maybe treat with some Melafix but I wouldn't do that unless you think it is getting infected. Keep an eye on the lethargy, though he may just be feeling sorry for himself. It probably is just something he's done to himself. My Platy did something similar about a year + ago and his looked much worse than that - it all healed.

If it is an infection, Melafix won't do anything for it since it's not medication. Just keep the water really, really clean and keep an eye on it. Usually barbel loss is due to less than ideal water conditions.

Ok... all my other cories are really healthy and happy... all have fu manchu ( ) barbels... nice and long.

Hopefully he will be ok then. Will keep up with w/c to keep water tip top. Thanks all.

The barbel of the one in the photo doesn't look long at all to me. Are the other all about the same length?

One of my Corys suddenly became lethargic and was like it for a few days when I noticed one of his fins was all black and shrivelled, he had burnt it on the heater. Not knowing what to do I did nothing but kept a close eye on him and he recovered well, albeit with a shrivelled fin but he shows no sign of problems with it now.

Besides its white fuzz on its snout & shortened barbels,i would also be worried by the noticeable redness behind its gills,could be possible bacterial infection.
Personally i would treat it will anti bacterial meds and see how it goes...

Like I said he's the only one like this. The rest are fine, and definitely have longer barbels. His barbels are short and he's got the injury, which is why I've made this thread.

I will look into antibacterial meds.
