In Line Heaters

Hi. I currently have one 300w heater in my 300l 4 foot tank. This is the standard heater which came with the tank. Anyway, I have recently seen a few of my larger fish squeezing their way behind it and I do not like it for fear of them getting burnt. I have two external filters running on the tank, a Fluval 405 and an Aqua One Aquis 1200.

I am looking at getting 2 x in line heaters so that the water is heated more evenly and for redundency reasons. Firstly, which are the best ones? Secondly, if I were to get two the same would they both fit the filter pipes (the Fluval is more chunky).

Hydor do a 200w and a 300w heater. The 300w comes with 16mm barbs and the 200w comes with either 16mm or 12mm barbs. You'll want 16mm for you filters.

I'd go for 2 x 200w so that if one fails on it will take longer to cook your fish and hopefully give you time to realise and unplug it.

That said, I use a 300w on my 90L and it keeps the temperature very stable.

If you are worried about the fish getting cooked if the heater sticks on,you need to check out an ATC 300.This will turn the heater off if it goes above a set temperature.
