I am so happy today. Because I was calling some pet shops today and after I called a couple of them I found out that 55g's were going to be expense then I called this chain store called "pets supermarket" and there 55g's are on sale. For one 55g it cost $89.99 and it comes with a hood and light and the metal stands are only $60 so that comes up alot cheaper than the 55g kit at walmart coming in at $168.99 and it comes with crappy filter and heater and no hood and light and no stand. Their stands for a 55g cost $67 and didn't even look at how much the hood cost but i'm sure it cost alot more. So if anyone else is looking for a 55g and lives in the city where there is a pet supermarket is you should go there and get your self a tank or two. Also some more good news I thought I would have to wait till febuary at least to get it and all the stuff I need I'll be getting it this friday the same day school lets out for x-mass break!!!. Oh friday is going to be some day. When I'm there friday how many watts should the heater be for the 55g?

Congrats on finding a good deal, as for the heater, sorry but I can't help you with that.

Good luck with setting up your new tank. ;)

Thats great! I wish I could find deals like that around here, a 55 gallon kit (where I work) is $299, and it doesn't even include the stand. Some people have said that anything over 50 gallons or so shouldn't be on a metal stand, but my 50 gallon is on a metal stand, and has been like that for a year, and the person before me (I got it 2nd hand) had it on the same stand for even longer, so I don't think it would be a problem.
I know you said you were going to stock it with your pleco and 4 angels..but what else? If I were you I would take all the fish from your 10 gallon and all your fish from your 20 gallon and fill out the schools/shoals. Then you could even divide the 10 gallon for your bettas, instead of having multiple tanks to clean. You seem to like bettas, if I'm not mistaken, you could even divide your 20 gallon long! That would be cool, or even just have the betta as a centerpiece fish and build around him. Just some suggestions. Again, congrats on finding the tank!

Edit: Oh, and you need 5 watts per gallon (for the heater) so you'll need atleast a 250 watt heater, since a standard 55 gallon is so long though, it would probably work out better if you got two heaters, each being 125 watts.

Congrats, good deal.

Oh I couldn't do that because I'm having a hard time getting my grandmother to let me get 6 angels and the pleco I might squeeze some more fish in are few months. 250 watt heater!!! Dang, the walmart 55g kit only comes with a 100 watt heater. Is that to low? So if they don't have a 250 watt heater could I get 2 100 watt heaters or if I can find it 2 125 watt heaters?

Hi Durbkat :)

You are really going to enjoy that tank.

Your deal on the tank sounds great. The best I can do locally is $89.00 for a 55 gallon tank and a metal stand. Then the hood and lights cost another $89.00 or more.

Is the stand one of those one piece black iron ones with a shelf underneath? If so, that shelf will hold another 30 gallon tank when you are ready for it. They are very strong stands. It's what I have. They are not fancy but they do a great job.

Petsmart is having free shipping for orders of $50 or more and it will last a few more days. I suggest that you check their prices before buying any other equipment but the tank and stand locally. They are usually excellent. If there is one near you, you can print out their internet prices and take it in and they will honor them in their store. There are none near me so I order things when they have sales with free shipping included.

Here are some good heaters:

And here's there AquaClear filters. Check out the 300/70 for your tank, unless you will have a special need for a bigger one:

Actually the tanks at my wal-mart are 100bucks & that comes with filter and heater so its pretty much the same as yours except for the stand. The stand is 70bucks so I then its not so cheap. :D . Well congrads on your find.

Well maybe when you got yours it was a $100 but when I went there sunday it was $168 and it doesn't come with a hood and light

at petsmart i can get a 55 gal kit for 120 and it comes with filter, light hood, heater, themometer, food and water declhorinater samples, and info packets. the stand is like 150-170 though.............

Wow... that's pretty sweet. I got my 55 gallon (with hood and light) for $150... and that was a sale!

I have two 150-watt VisiTherm heaters for mine.

Ok thanks guys. One more question. Once I clone the tank should I add fish immediatly after doing so or should I wait like half an hour before I add some angels to it?

you can add some imediately.......i would had the plec first since he is hardier. after 2 weeks or so if everything looks good you can go ahead and get 4 small angels.
