im not shure about thease fish

the latin name or give any special tips on breeding i understand that they are ither pearl or jewel cichlids (that are in the firemouth family) or wether they are something else also any info on the common firemouths would be appritiated.

throichthys meeki is the firemouth. hemichromis is the species of jewels. depends on what type of jewel you are talking about. hemichromis bimaculatus is the most common in lfs. the females are brown and the males are a brownish red with blue spots on them.

cool thanks semper fi im not so shure that they are jewls now good to have a bit more info on the firemouths tho ive been keeping them for a while now.

i think i might have got it totally wrong and it might be a Amphilophus rhytisma but there was no immage i will have to go back to the shop i think

I think the cichlids u've got are (Thorichys ellioti) A rarer cousin of the Firemouth. There quite a shy fish, but get quite agrresive when breeding.
