im going to be hopefully buying a 120 gallon tank once i get a job(waiting for the call any day now) what do you guys thing i should stock it with, Malawi's, or Tanganyika's?, i think i am going to go malawis, probably peacocks. i was thinking red empress and Taiwan reef, and other aulonocara species, i have been reading on this so i have an idea on these although im more partial to mbuna but we will see

i know about cross-hybridizing also

if i were you i would do an assortment of malawi cichlids. frotosas are also good but i would think the tank would be boring if it is just the one species. other than that good luck on job and hope u get tank.

wish i could get a 120 gallon tank im getting a 85 I live in a up stairs apartment lol dont want to try anything over 85 gallons but once we build our house Im going to talk wife into a a 200 gal tank lol.

i rather like fronts, there are also many other tank mates for fronts too, calvus so on any larger Tanganyika species that are non aggressive go well with fronts. besides i don't want any spastic fish becuase it will be a show piece for the entrance of the house i want it to have large fish. most Malawi's are just to small and spastic. im hoping i can get this job as i am only 15 and my mom has already payed for 3 tanks, all the food, fish, and everything else that goes along with the tank, so she says i have to buy this with my own money. i think im going to go with fronts but haven't made my mind completely yet.

I'd be tempted with the Fronts idea with that size tank. You can always do Mbuna in a 55 gal at a later date. :good:

yeah i was actually going to get a 55 gallon for a reef tank my my mom talked me out of it, and besides for the cost of runng a reef tank i could get a 120 gallon with fronts! thats probably what ill do, i just looking for some tank mates for fronts, probably 2 or 3 calvus and some jumbo cyps

Calvus are fantastic fish and should work fine with Fronts - could be 1 stunning tank when up and running. :good:

thats what im hoping! :D

i went to my lfs yesterday and asked it they carried frontosa, they said they do but they only get a shipment of 10 every month but they are all wc

Sounds good - Just make sure your water quality is absolutely spot on if adding WC fish, especially the Ph. :good:

ok thanks for the info! my mom cant make up her mind if she wants fronts or mbuna, im trying to convince her into fronts, she says before i get the 120 i should get a smaller tank with demasoni, i like the idea but i dont have the money, considering im still waiting for the call from the job i applied for so this might take a bit!

now in quite sad my mom said i couldent get the 120 gallon  she says i have to start saving for a car becuase im getting my drivers licence in july so i have to get a tank thats about 40 gallons so im looking for a 4 foot 40 gallon tank to put demasoni in it with some yellow labs and maybe some afra if possable but that probably wont happen as the demasoni would probably hassel them to death so i dont know we will see what happens in the future

That's a shame - If you're getting a 4 footer, see if you can stretch it to a 55 gal - the extra room makes a difference with Mbuna. Unfortunately you are right about the Afra, that won't work if you are keeping a group of Demasoni - i'd stick to Demasoni and labs. :good:
