Im Blasted Fuming

Poor fish :( So sorry modaz, I know what you mean about people thinkng they know everything when they actually don't... my friends all think I'm crazy when I tell them how I care for my fish. It's so sad how fish are mistreated so often :(

Your friend was horribly irresponsible! Do you guys have an equivalent to small claims court?

That being said...I've heard that fish can live up to two weeks without food, but I wouldn't want to test it. I have however heard of many Discus owners who do not feed their fish while they are gone up to a week due to the fact that Discus require very clean water and no food = less waste production. Usually they have someone come by daily to make sure that the power is still running and all equipment is running properly however.

First of let me say sorry for everything that has happened to you. Secondly, I must ask, how often is a fortnight? Sorry but just not familiar with the term  Good luck, you are being the bigger person by moving on and just letting it go.

Drew

awww that's such a shame, what an irresponsible lazy ........

sorry to hear this news, i feel for you, that friend of yours is a t~*t, i think they are lucky you didn't hit them :(

thanx guys for the replies,

even good comes from bad and one BIG good thing means that I get to go to the LFS and spend the remaining euros I didnt spend (thats after Ive changed it back) gunna get some more rainbows first as they are quite exspensive in this part of the country (£4 each) decided against more clowns but instead increase the cory shoal by an extra 6 and no more betta either just gunna stick with the one VT I have left.

that way i can still spawn the rainbows, :hyper: new fry that will cheer me up

Thats just wrong hey, some friend!

For my holidays I will be buying a automated battery feeder...

Well done on keeping calm. Just imagine though, if you had a fully fledged reef setup!
So sorry for your loses.
excellent point.......as much as i want a reef BADLY this is one reason why i didnt get one, im lucky as the 300L ive got was gunna be marine, so glad i didnt do it now. I wouldve defo killed him then  300L big enough to drown the sod in.

Small claims...... not worth the hassle really, rising above the PRAT and his weird way of fish keeping is the best way of revenge, he knows that this is a small buisness that ive set up and is going from strenght to strenght every week, im spending this home breeding time to learn everything and more so im ready for when i get some premises to breed on a larger scale and this really does P*** him off because his wife wont let him have tanks again so that makes me happy as well.

You're ex-friend must be REALLY busy not to be able to feed them even twice a week. Sounds like you're better off without him. What an a***hole.

Actually, since you left your fish in his care, maybe a 'phone call to the RSPCA may enlighten you as to possible options, if only to put him straight.

well ive just spent the last 2 months driing him and his wife to hospital for check ups and things but thats gunna stop straight away and hes asked to borrow a PA system for his 50th party and thats gunna suddenly stop working 1 day before the event too :hyper: :hyper: now thats what i call sweet revenge with a capital R.

This is great, people saying to bill the guy for not caring for your fish when he wasn't paid to do it. Some people have no idea how law works.

As to going two weeks without feeding, that is no problem except for fry. Apart from my reef, my tanks tend to get food every 2-4 days. Many people go on holiday for two weeks without feeding with no issues. I know I have I find it very hard to believe they died from just two weeks without food.

I reckon there was something else that has caused the problems, not the feeding (or lack thereof). If one of the fish had died and not been noticed you could have had an ammonia spike that set off a chain reaction.

But if his friend had actually BEEN IN the house even once, he could have stopped what happened. Or maybe he did see it and pretended he hadn't.

And at what point has his friend become legally and bindingly responsible for the fish tank?

Where is the contract showing that he undertakes to care for the tank and is prepared to accept responsibility for anything that happens, even as a result of his negligence or inaction?

Even if he had been in the house, unless he was expected to count every fish, or take water tests he still could have missed the actual cause.
