I'm After A Reliable Heater

The heater in my 55gal is pretty poor, it's 200 watt, so you'd think it was strong enough. But when it's on its always 28 degrees even when set lower, and when the heater is off its like 24 degrees. And typically I'm aiming for 26 degrees. We have decent insulation in our house that was installed last year but I can't see this affecting the tank temp when the heater is on. So what heaters do people use on tanks similar to this size? And how much will a good one set me back?

Eheim Jager is a great heater. You can calibrate it as well so that you have the exact temp you want. They are fairly accurate from the start, I barely had to adjust the temp at all. I have 5 of them now and I really like them. They were not that expensive IMO. I paid about $35CAN for my 250 watt. The 50 watts were about $27CAN.

rena smart heaters are excellent. they are accurate, unbreakable (apparently) and arent glass so fish wont get burns from them. they are also black and can be easily hidden with a black background. i use these on all of my tanks and wouldnt buy any other.

i'm using a Hydor heater at present and am very happy with it. :good:

The reason i chose the Hydor is that it's a really small 200w heater. Not as obtrusive as the others.

I have a hydor in my small tank and that does the trick (obviously a smaller wattage model) so if this quality remains in the bigger models i may also consider one of these.
