I'm a girl. :look: I think less males keep fish. And if they do, it is mostly older (18+) males, because the newer generation are more interested in video games.

again, off topic, a lot of older males also play video games. i live in college dorms and that's about all they do when they're not in class. (or even when they're in class. i've seen so many boys playing world of warcraft on their laptops...while i'm usually checking out betta stuff or new shoes on mine. :D ) but i don't know if that's the reason. a lot of guys my age have trouble just taking care of themselves, let alone a pet. haha. :)

hey hey hey, im in college and i put alot more time in my bettas than my studies! but i also play video games/poker all day =D

Male here.

I've known a couple of guys in my dorm who kept bettas. (I haven't known any guys who've kept any non-betta fish)

But on the whole, I think we're more likely to have dogs, once we get out of the dorm setting. I'd have my dog, but I couldn't take him away from my mom and the other three dogs, which sucks. So now I've got a betta, which has turned out to be pretty cool.

Most males who keep fish that I've encountered go for more "manly" fish like cichlids or marine tanks where most females seem to go for community tanks, bettas or goldfish. I put manly in quotes as there are few fish as vicious per ounce towards their own kind as wild bettas, even the domesticated betta splendens can be an ornery little fish.

Oh, and for the record, female here though I do keep and have kept cichlids and brackish puffers in addition to bettas, goldfish (in a big big tank) and community fish. ;)
