hmmm thats thrown a spanner in the works ( but in a good way) i like the look of that fern , so much nicer looking than java fern . is it easy to grow?

As long as it you put it in a spot in the tank that gets good flow (Bolbitis needs to sway), it'll grow. It is not fussy about lighting or CO2 injection.

i will most likely be adding a powerhead to increase turnover for the plants so that wont be a problem .

no really i would leave it as it, thats a nice piece of wood, as some one said above just grow plants through it or something.

i have decided that i am going to use it as a centrepiece and plant around it rather than on it

I'd do a couple of anubias nana's on it and some java moss.

I prefer the idea of growing plants around, behind and maybe having some coming up through the centre of it. I think it would compliment the wood more than having plants actually on it. And that is an amazing piece of wood, what a good find!
