If I boil it, can I put a piece of driftwood I found in my freshwater aquarium?

I was at the beach and I found a neat piece of driftwood that I brought home. So I don’t know what type of wood it is, it isn’t the most solid piece of wood but it’s cute. I was wondering if I boiled it I would be able to put it in one of my freshwater aquariums, but if it’s too big a risk I’ll return it back in the beach (I live like 5 minutes away so it’s nbd)

You don't have to boil it. Just soak it in a container of tap water for a week or so (until it sinks) and then pop it in the tank. Change the water in the container each day.

On topic for collecting driftwood:

Try to avoid softwoods as they'll decompose quickly. That's old enough where you shouldn't have to worry about associated resins/sap from certain softwoods.

Most of my driftwood is collected, including some well aged softwood. Only annoyance is the amount of woody detritus I have to clean on a weekly basis.

i feel like this is softwood since if bugs can chew through it erosion can too right

Okay! I’ll get the soak going and watch it! Thank you everyone for all your help in my very numerous posts haha

I wouldn’t put it in the tank period. It looks super dry and brittle. You can try to soak it for a couple of days and see, but I imagine it will fall apart.
