I recently bought a tank on e-bay containing fish there are 3 fish in the tank that i don't know what they are i presume they are Cichlids of some sort due to there body shape etc.

Anyway i need to identify 2 of them for the moment they sort of look like this cichlid http://www.gcca.net/fom/Variabilochromis_moorii.htm but have sort of spines coming out of there tail fin. I have one which is slightly larger than the other and it changes colour seemingly at will, maybe due to his mood he goes a much lighter colour with dark patches.

I will post a picture this evening if there is no luck...

what colours does it change to, i have a cichilid that changes colour due to mood, ill try find the name for it, mine also has three bright yellow spots on his bottom fin. try get us a pic so i can have a look at it.

Lucifer x :D

He doesn't have any yellow spots...

He is kind of a browny grey colour if anyone can understand what i mean and he changes to a more fleshy tone but several areas stay the browny colour in a pattern, this sounds really strange and very difficult to explain...

i think we're gonna need a pic for this 1.

Looks a bit like a paradise fish, although the colours don't seem right, that could be the pic though. Pretty sure its not African and its body shape resembles NW cichlids, might be worth posting there too.

Correct - I've anwered in the other thread but it is Belontia signata - not a cichlid.

You may have hit this on the head... found something called a combtail paradise fish which looks similar!

EDIT

You got it Ferris it's a Combtail Paradise Fish (Belontia Signata)

Here is a much better picture for people. The top one looks more like mine.
