He is getting a nightmare and a half to feed  I am hoping as soon as I can find a rio 400 in my price range  I will have a better chance as the lid is so much bigger. However the tank he is in now, I have to take off the top lid and there is 4 glass sliders, once I slide one accross I only have about a 4" square gap to drop the food in. He jumped again so far yesterday he caught his side on the light relector and has cut himself, thankfully its not deep just a white mark. I tried this morning holding the food in my fist and putting my whole hand in the water and let the food go, only problem with that was he managed to grab the skin between my thumb and finger as I opened my hand (OUCH!!)

The way I have found most sucessfull so far is to stand on a stool (I am short the tank is tall) so I can see where he is and feed him one stick/pellet at a time, by holding my index finger up, hold the pellet between my thumb and middle finger for him to take gently, but this drives the other fish mad as they want theirs. If I dont hold my finger up he just charges and jumps

It's difficult to visualise without seeing it. A tank with a lid well, well above the water line is what you seem to need for him.

He sounds a real character star. Think you need to get him a lead! lol

He is a wonderful fish, so funny.

Its 4" now from the water line to where he jumps between the glass sliders to get to my hand where I drop the food in. Its the small gap that causes the problem. Silly tank!

Try lowering his food in a small fish net and shaking it in the water to release pellets.

If its that bad, try getting something like duckweed and grow a blanket across the top, this stops my snakeheads jumping, also helped with my oscars, but sometimes they have to learn hard way

Ah good idea Nelly, will try some. Knowing Chops he will just eat it

chops might not eat it, but I know some rotties who will adore it

a feeding pipe just drop it
down the pipe and in to the water
a bit like vets do with a pill
tube with a horse or a large dog

Nelly I owe you one :good:

Instead of duckweed I used a plastic bushy plant over the glass and dropped pellets etc through the plant. Last night I fed him brine shrimp which I couldnt pour through the plant and he didnt jump :hyper: nor did he jump this morning for pellet breakfast :good:
