Ideal Piranha Setup? Need Advice Please

I have also posted this in the predatory section but have had no response... Hoping someone here may be able to help

I have just moved my cories, and kribensis to my 30 gal and swapped my 3 juvenile red belly piranha over to a 55 gal. Now i am aware that its required for adult piranha to have 20 gal or more per fish but mine are only around 4 months old and around 3 - 4 inch in size, maybe a little more so they shud b fine in this tank for a few months at least

What id like help with is setting up the tank to thier needs... The tank currently has sand, bogwood and a plants as this was the set up for my corys and kribs.

Would i need to change the sand back to gravel or is sand ok?

Is the bogwood of any benefit to them or should i remove it from the tank to give them more swimming space?

i think they will eat the 3rd, they like to be in even numbers!

Hmm, this maybe true. Iv heard so many different things. I started off with 3 and 1 jumped out of the tank. Iv now made them back up to 3 and they are in a much bigger and better tank. I know the more of them you have the less likely they are to be aggressive towards each other but i don't have a tank big enough for more than 3. Maybe in a few months i will have

When i has 2 people where telling me to make it back up to 3... Now i have 3 people say 2 are better?? So confusing...

i think Bubble meant 4 not 2, 2 the weaker 1 would certianly get killed, 3 the other 2 might gang up on the smaller/weaker 1 whilst 4 theres less chance of this happening as you said generally the more the better

I know nothing about Piranha but the same thing applies to many fish, including my now nice large group of 13 (soon to be more!) female bettas
