hey,

Just new to the forum find it really useful!! Im also new to keeping fish so looking for some help! I have had my tank set up 60L for about 4 months now and wondering if someone can help me ID My fish. I also have another tank which is just for guppies and neons. (Afraid the other fish in my 60L tank will eat them).

First off does ANYONE know what fish this is? I bought it in a little petshop here in Ireland which was absolutly tiny and had no names on the tanks. The person said it was some sort of shark?!?! Cant find it on the net. Its really nervous and gets on well with the others.

As you can see my tank is fairly bare. I want to get one of those bankground for my tank but should I wait until the tank settles a bit? All the fish I have in in are there since I got it 4 months ago so dont want to disrupt them.

Also can anyone help me ID the fish in the pics below? I know some of them which Ill post below. I would like to get more fish but afraid its over crowded (the pics make it look way worse cause all my fish were at that end of the tank when I took it)

I boguht a shark catfish Shark catfish - Hexanematichthys seemanni I think it was, bought 2 of them but they died within 2 days?!?! Really liked them dont know why they died? Also I had a male swordtail but that jumped out of the tank while changing the water :(

So the ones I know I are:

1 male siamese fighter
1 female siamese fighter
5 glass catfish
1 pleco
1 Angel Bard (Which I had in my other tank cause its small, but it nipped the guppies so I took it out)
1 Barb (its greeny/black and just chases the angel barb)
2 tiger barb
2 Angel fish (one of them has had its fins nipped though?)
I dont know what the others are? I think 1 is a molly (the black one) and the white is a female swordtail i think? http://www.flickr.com/photos/37262195@N03/...352293/sizes/l/ its in this photo. Also the one thats silver with a red stripe dont know what that one is? (theres 2 of them)

Anyone have any tips on compatability? are these ok? should I add/take out any? I bought 2 glass catfish and only after read they need to be in groups so bought 3 more.

I live in Ireland and its hard to find a lot fish (unless in Dublin) Usually they have different ones every week so its trial and error to get the same.

Thanks guys!

Pangasius sutchi / Pangasius hypothalmus (The first question)
Scissortails (Rasbora trilineata)
Albino and Green Tiger Barb (Barbus tetrazona)
Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus Interruptus)
Black widow tetras (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)
also Mollies and Swordtails

Whilst hey should all get along pretty well at present, you are massively overstocked IMHO.
P.sutchi should go.
You have a mish mash of quite a lot of different species from various global locations. I would research a little more.
Its hard to tell folks what to do in these situations as different people like different things. The plec is too big for starters
IMHO theres too many fish in too little of space.

BigC

hey,

thanks a million for the reply thats exactly the fish, i checked your link and it says it grows up to 100cm!!!!! That is crazy! The petshop had a tank with about 30 of them in it and they were all crammed, so wrong. I guess im gunna have to upgrade my tank when it starts growing :$ I dont really want to take it back to that petshop because it was a tiny one and so were the tanks. I paid €14 euro for the fish! I see there avialible elsewhere online for €2-3.

Do you think I have too many fish in my tank, i.e they seem to all get along but worried about the angelfish getting nipped. I cant put it into my guppy tank as i read somewhere it can eat them :(

Thanks for the replys

yes these are sold alot in lfs for some reason, if you can upgrade then all good, they do grow huge and it depend's which pang you have, you will need a huge tank when they fully grow

It is also not a good idea to house male and female bettas (siamese fighters) together.

Ye i might take a trip to dublin and see if any of the large pet shops could take it. I do plan on getting a large large tank but if it can grow that big it might be too small. il have to think about it.

nosoup4you - why is it not a good idea to house them together? I thought it was just 2 males? In my other tank i have another male siamese and its fairly active etc, but the one thats in with the female doesnt do much and just lies in the plant. I actually thought it was sick but iv had it for 4 months and its still the same.?

They will fight. Males and females should only be kept together for a short time for breeding purposes. They may be fine one minute and the next you have two fish with no fins or even worse.

i agree with nosoup4you. the siamese male will fight. the angels will out grow your tank and you might start loosing fish.( angels will have a nice snack :p ).that wierd sharkthing will get too big so i would take it back.also the plec can grow to 2 feet and over!! other than those i would say the others should be ok together. if you get rid of those fish listed above your tank should be better. get rid of the female fighter as they need to be kept in groups of 5-6 females. the male will be more active then.

haha yes that weird shark fish is going to have to go. I have been looking up on google all about it and its crazy. Im going to have a look now for a bigger tank.

I didnt realise how big the angel fish get! There is soo much to learn about tropical fish really good fun tho.

BigC - Just saw the lower part of your response (page didnt load it last time i looked) - Thanks for the advice. Im going to try and rehome the pleco - hopefully the petshop will take it back. It was so small when I bought it cant believe how big it has gotten.

I have an older tank its a 40L but has no lid (broke) so im going to look for that and look for a lid on the net for it (have a cat). Then I can put the siamese fighter in that.

Do you guys know anywhere on the net that sells cheap large tanks? Good ones just cheaper. I live in Republic of Ireland and the prices here are unreal. bigC know any cheapish places in Northern Ireland? Everything up there is soo cheap now with the way the exhange is. I do my shopping up there evry week so getting there will be no prob :)

thanks a million :) going to check out those!! Only been to Jollies up there but only some of them have fish! These will do the job.
Thanks!! :)

Hey,

Thanks a million BigC ill take you up on that offer. Im going to head up today and check ou those 2 shops (MIGHT get a tank today if i have the funds lol)

http://www.aquariumsdelivered.co.uk seems very cheap for tanks... im HOPING that the north will be around the same, then might get it next week!!

Got another smaller tank (think its 30L) its small enough but i put my siamese male into that and some of my mollies/swordtail. I know its not ideal but it was either that or keep them together.

Im going to post a new topic regarding a question I have on some tanks. Thanks a mill for your help ;)
