I tok this picture while diving onboard in the Red Sea. I'm having trubble identifying it. First I thougt it was either Redtooth Triggerfish or Blue Triggerfish. But neither of them seems to match very vell. I seem to remember that it was rather big compared to the normal size for the two mentioned triggerfishes. Can anyone help?

sry bit off topic kinda but the red sea, thats th place with the super high salt which is like impossible to drown in right lol?

how did u find diving? like twice as much weight? im guessing the salt would have to be like at 1.050 sg or more or that reaction right? amazing that fish could survive

I have found my pictures of the niger trigger took in the Red Sea last year.

You may be able to see whether it was the same fish from these pictures.

Thanks for posting, and sorry for my late reply. Something seems to be wrong about the "subscribe" function on this site. I get updates from every single thread but this one..

The picture I posted is the only one I've got. I spotted the giant on its way away from me. There is one thing that confuses me; the fish seemed to be rather big compared with normal trigger sizes (typically 0,5meter length). And that is after I subtract the enlargement from my diving-goggles.
I am an experienced diver, and well-known about the magnification factor :)

TigerIssey: Your pictures do seem to mach quit well, but still I believe there are some things that might differ from the fish I saw. Off course fish differs from each other, but I believe the tale and its face was a bit different than on your pictures. Pictures be tricky, especially under water. I've had a look around on the internet for pictures of the Niger Trigger, and none of the pictures I found matched any better than yours.

There is just this little thing with the size....

Which particular part of the red sea were you diving in, I do have some underwater DVD's and pictures I could dig out that are by area to give us a clue. Do you not have a red sea fish guide at all, mine is the memofish book, it is a pocket size one and to be honest the only fish I could find getting larger with a similar body shape is giant triggerfish Balistoides viridescens which grows to 75cm but it is the wrong colour. Pseudobalistes fuscus is the right colour aswell but only grows to 55cm.

When that picture was taken, we were aboat two hours off the coast of Hurghada I believe. I do have a Red Sea fish guide, but I cant get any of them to fit, especially with size taken in consideration.

Alex Brown: the titan triggers tale does not match very well and I cant remember the small coloured area right in front of the tale.
