Ich?

I've been fighting what I thought was ich for ages, white spots and heavy breathing led me to believe it was ich. I tried alot of different meds and finally tried the salt and temperature approach. Now any fish that I had that had these spots on have all passed away (6 fish), and my others show no sign of any problems. Is there another parasite or disease out there that resembles ich or did I just have a resilient strain of ich?

Don't hold back if I've been dumb in anyway!

So sorry for your loss! I know it is very sad when you have to fish out their little bodies!

Now, when you increased the temperature did you lower the water level to increase aeration? Warm water holds less oxygen! That's why you should get more oxygen in there. You could also run an airstone, or increase the flow of your filter.

You said your fish had this for quite some time. So it could very well be that they just succumbed to it! Finish your heat-salt-treatment though, even if the other fish don't show any signs they are infected!!!

Lowered the water a bit to allow the filter to stir the water more, didn't use an air stone.

gill and body flukes can cause the fish to behave the way they do (flicking against stuff) when they have white spot but there's no visable signs. I've also had white spot twice and I've now got a female guppy with a perminant white spot on her tail - I inderstand from posts on here it will be a scar from the last time she was infected.
