2nd time and for the 2nd time ive recieved new fish and consequently again breeding ich. How come when they come from a lfs they're more susceptible to disease. Surely being in an environment thats specifically devoted to that species they should be at their top game?

This might just be me, being devils advocate but when they remove the fish. I've always seen they're behind the tank. Do you reckon they purposefully stick crap in there to make you buy more stuff?
I dunno if its obvious or not and people just turn a blind eye and accept it, because they dont want to make a fuss, but ive only just succumbed to the notion but #63### if it what they do, WELL PLAYED SIR. but F**k you.

Also, on a different note, When treating, do you take into account your filter capacity?

I don't think they do it on purpose a fish goes through a lot of stress during it's sale - it is moved from it's original source (which can be the other side of the planet) to your LFS.

It then thinks it's being settled in when it's bagged up and taken home by you causing the fish stress. Stress can be the main cause factor of ich.

i read something interesting that relates to your comment. It stated ich is always present. Just waiting for the right time to strike. Such as when a fish is under stress. Isnt it possible to prevent that somehow? Make them high or something? heh.

I think the statemen that ich is always in your tank is nothing but BS! I think you can get a fish that has ich but won't show for a few weeks

Ich is not always present, it's an old wives tale, that's like saying headlice is always present on your head, just waiting for you to get sick to show up.

They don't put ich in there on purpose. The thing is that if the store gets even just one shipment of ich infected fish, or takes an ich infested fish back from an owner who can't keep it anymore, the ich can spread into the store's tanks. Even if just one tank is exposed to ich, it can make its way through all of the tanks because they often have all of the tanks on a linked filter sort of thing. And it would be to expensive, not worth it, or impossible for them to treat the whole thousand gallon+ set up for ich.

And when treating, you just do it by the per gallon dose on the container. The filter capacity shouldn't matter as long as you've taken out your carbon.

But i disagree, when you say its impossible, its not, they have a duty to ensure to their up most capability to ensure they provide safe products, at the end of the day its business, if they cant provide such a business then they shouldnt be in it. They shouldnt be allowed to sell diseased fish. (maybe theres a niche here) selling 100% safe fish. I woulda thought the fish industry would have a decent income, but i guess they'd make more money not treating fish and having people buy the products to treat the disease. They really cant afford on bulk medicines. Hell at the prices they charge it's a #41#### lie if they say they cant, just business!
Its kinda sick thinking about it, on the livestock. So what happens then? So an underlying diseased fish gets sold to a person, the person takes it back home. The disease then blooms under stress. Say if the owner just refunded the fish, think my lfs gives a 7day period (which is quite sneak, its a 7day period for ich to become visable),
then if the fish store dont treat fish, then what happens to the fish. Maybe they treat more containable amounts? Sorry im blasting out stuff that unless your a lfs employee you'll be clueless like me.
Just saying, i treat my fish, just a scenario.

Old wives tales are urban legends based on superstition or unverified claims, and are often untrue. Something like pulling out grey hairs will cause ten more grey hairs to grow in it's place, or cats will suck the breath out of babies.

It just takes them too long, too much work, and too much money to treat a two dollar fish that might stay in the store for maybe a week. They are, after all, a business. Maybe you should talk to your LFS about why they don't treat all their fish for ich, maybe you can learn something, or get them to start. Don't buy from stores you know have diseased fish, otherwise you're just supporting it.
