ich.. 1 fish dead

I noticed spots all over one of my plecos. I figured it was ich and started treating for it. One of the green tiger barbs died.

How long should I treat for the ich? The spots are off the pleco now, and I know the ich is killed in free floating stage. Guy at store told me treat for 5 days, but I read anywhere up to 16.

I've treated 6 days now. The fish seem happy, and I don't see any white dots on them. I've got my filter out so the treatment will work.
