I just wanted to let everyone know that I have won the battle against ick!! Sadly though I lost my 5 month old swordtail fry! She was the first fry I rescued and kept alive :rip: baby peaches :-(

That's the only fish I lost to ick though!! The rest are survivors!!! Yahhh :kana:

I might do 1 more treatment tomorrow just to be safe :)

I would recommend continuing the treatment for twice as long as the manufacturer recommends. You will read a lot of people saying the same thing. The reason is that ich can survive a limited time off a fish and by continuing the treatment you verify it is really gone. It can also survive on a fish without showing symptoms. :(

EDIT: It's really cool that you made it with only one loss. :) I'm sorry about your loss though. :-(

I've been treating for 6 days. 3 treatments and then a day in-between each treatment. Do you think I should do another treatment tomorrow just to be safe?
I haven't seen any spots for 3 days now.

I was talking to a guy at my lfs and he said when he uses the treatment the same one I am using he only does it once double the dosage and then I explained to him about the life cycle of ick and I said how can you be sure you treated at the right time the free swimming stage and he just looked at me and said..you know your probably right. I should be working there instead?? :p

Ask the owner for a job. ;)

As for continuing treatement, if it took 3 to remove the spots I would do another 3 treatments. Always better safe than sorry. :)

I wish I could ask for a job but I don't speak Swedish too great so it would be hard to help customers :/

Yeah your right I'll continue the treatment at least another 3 times just to be on the safe side :)

The disease can only be treated when the spots have gone so it is more important to treat at this time than any other. I'd definatley do another treatment. I always treat for at least 14 days in tropical tanks and I have never lost a fish to ich.

Thanks Cheese Specialist (love your name always makes me smile :p )

I'll definitely continue treatment another few times. Like you said this is the most important time to treat as spots are gone and I would assume this probably means the ich is in it's free swimming stage and just looking for the unlucky fish

Indeedy, that's why gravel vacumming is useful at this time as it hoovers the thingys off the substrate before they find a host.

Thanks for the name comment, I like that it makes you smile! :D

I agree that you should continue the treatment for a few more days yet. Since you have completed one course of treatment, I would do a water change and gravel vac to remove some of the parasites that maybe still free swimming, then carry out another full course of treatment. Once you have done this, another water change, and some carbon in your filter for a few days will remove the medication residue :)
