well for all that knows i have been doing a fish in cycle and reading were going good until monday, after i put new plants and bogwood in.

well anyways was told to keep up with water changes.

The thing is.

I noticed the water pressure in my fluval 4 plus was not really very good last night. so i took 10% of water out of tank and gave the foam pads a little shake as the were clogged (bigtime). I never touched the media inside.

the water pressure is really flowing again.

will do a water test in next 10 mins to see whats going on now.

Not sure if plant gunk and bogwood caused it to clog.

Not sure if i have done the right or wrong thing, having internet connection problems so was unable to comeon here last night to ask.

Thanks

Zoe

You did the right thing :good: For the bacteria to grow, they need water flowing past them, this won't happen if the filter is clogged up. Just don't squeeze them out too much while going through the cycle.

Aww thanks Arfie.

was starting to crap myself there lol.

Readings all ok apart from ammonia still. between 0.25 - 0.50 API master kit test

Will continue with water changes. God am even doing water changes in my sleep lol.
If it takes a year i will still do changes.

Thanks again

I always give my filter media a good washing out when I do maintanence. The pads tend to get a lot of gunk in them and it slows the filters down. The bacteria are pretty well lodged in there so don't worry about squeezing and swishing the pads around to get rid of that stuff. It can actually do more harm than good if left there long enough. Just use used tank water to do it that way it doesn't need to be warmed or dechlorinated or anything.
