I had to go out of town to finish some of X-mas shopping and on the way back I called my fiance on my cell phone. She asked where I was because I rarely use the cell phone (I have it just for emergencies). Anyway, I tell her kiddingly "none of your business, I had to finish being Santa Claus" to which she replies, "Oh, I figured you got that 125 gallon tank youv'e been talking about and were on the way home with it."

I think she's beginning to resign herself to the fact that we are now a Multiple Tank Family. I really hadn't wanted a 125, but maybe a 75 or 90. I may just have to go for it!!!

Go for the 125, she opened it up. Go make that purchase
It is mighty tempting. However, I have to remember that we will be moving in a year or so. Maybe better just go with the 75 - 90 :p

Heck, to me, just the fact that she thought that I had bought one and didn't seem mad at all was mighty......

she basically gave you her blessing to get a 125 gallon tank so just gof or it! :)

Ok, don't tar and feather me for this, but I think we here at TFF can be a bit.... shall we say.. "rabid" about spreading the disease that is fishkeeping. We all know the "itch" of wanting that next tank. I only have 1 tank right now... You don't think I have 10 different 20g long tanks planned out? 125g would be nothing short of sublime. I understand.

However, perhaps a more realistic plan would be to sit down with your fiance and explain what this hobby (and ideally a 6' tank) means to you. Sure, you may have to compromise a bit (wait 'til you move), but a 125g tank isn't really something with which you would want to surprise anyone (that doesn't actually want one). And if she's in on the decision from the start, she'll undoubtedly enjoy the tank instead of resenting it. Who knows, in the longterm maybe you'll both be happy you got it...

Good luck.

No No Don't listen to modernhamlet!!! Just do it!!!

Just kidding (I think). He's probably right you know. Hmm... what to do :/

Dont listen to him :p Just do it i got my 55g and my parents thought i was retardted for spend $250 on a fish tank and now they like it cuz they had to live with it in the basement :D but i really wish i got a 125g+ 55g is just to small for the fish i want

yep go for it,

I just bought my 90 gallon with out consulting me parents and then few weeks later bought a 205 gallon with out really asking, my Mum was thewre when i called up for it though, and my dads built the stand for it so he can't be against it that much!!

She actually enjoys the fish alot. She just doesn't want to have to do the maintenance. She helped set up the 55 gallon and in fact, helped pay for part of the stand and canopy. She even bought the last three tiger barbs that went into the 30 gallon. I have no complaints about her, that's why we're getting married. More than once she has said "You could be doing lots worse things for a hobby". The other thing I enjoy alot (golf) doesn't bother her either. In fact her words when we started dating were "You better have something to do because your'e not sitting under me all the time."

It helps that we're older (I'm 42 and she's soon to be 40) and both are kind of independent.

I was just surprised when she thought that I had bought such a big tank. A 29 or 30 gallon without warning is one thing but I'd never spring something that big on her.

However, since she's the one who brought it up..............

So you are moving in a year...90 or 125 its gonna be heavy and delicate operation...get the 125 you may never be able to again!!!

Do it man!!

Well, since you put it that way..............

Edit: It should be no surprise to any of you that post # 100 would involve getting more tanks :fun:

There are a few toys that I wish I had got before I was married. :/

Signed,
