I put a green ring around the mark on the second photo to make it easier to spot on the first one. (Although it\'s pretty obvious)

The mark remind me of a blood blister, such as when you catch your finger in a door or something.
It\'s below the skin, there is no raised bump or any other signs of ill health.

Could it be that it\'s bumped it\'s head at some point?
Do I just observe and wait for it to go away?

Thanks

Looks like a few scales may have come away from the skin, leaving redness. The fish may have rubbed on something, or a larger fish may have tried to attack the fish.

What else do you have in the tank?

I would first off do a routine water change being careful to dechlorinate so as to avoid any chemical burns on the exposed skin. (Try not to introduce freezing cold water as well!) Remove and replace 10 to 15% of the tankwater just to keep the tank extra clean and reduce levels of background bacteria.

Keep the water clean, do a gravel clean and watch the fish. If the fish is happy and strong then a bump or bit of a scratch will not come to any harm.

Watch and wait. Anything else starts to happen then take a photo and get back to us.

I have 5 neons, 4 Barbs, 2 Bolivian Rams (both female and both very quiet), 3 Corys and 6 Kuhli.
Unless they were squabbling between themselves, which doesn't happen that often, I can't see any of the others having cause it.

I planned to do a water change later anyways so that's no problem.
I'll just keep an eye on it.
