As you know he's not been very active. Today all he's done is lie down on the bottom of the tank. He's there now with his gills moving quickly. I really think I've done something wrong and he's gonna die.

I'm thinking of moving him to my main tank. Any ideas on what I could use to float him in the tank but keep him seperate from my fish

He's swimming about now all of a sudden flaring at his reflection. I'm torn here, I dunno if this is normal or if he's sick. It's a new tank and I used mature media and tested. But I'm stressing. How fast should thir gills move when resting?

I wouldn't stress; fish often look like they're breathing too fast; just let him settle in and trust your tests :)

Try not to stress :) he is your first male so your learning what he is like :)
If your water is tested and fine then u have nothing to worry about, especially if he is flaring at his reflection and being daft

Rught now he is literally laid on his side on the bottom of the tank. I've never seen anything like it!

Maybe if I add some endlers it will liven him up?

I've had 2 males die on me in the last week.....Why? I just don't know what went wrong. The only thing I did was take them out of a very small tank and gave them a very large one. I primed the water before hand made sure there was no ammonia present temp was fine ph etc. Within a week they displayed all the symtoms that you have described with your fish. Was it the change that they didn't like and stressed out? Was it the water? Were they sick in the first place and giving them a change exacerbated their illness. I will never know. I hope your fish pulls through keep positive your doing your best... thats the main thing. :good:

Tbh I don't think he will he's just laid there all the time. He's got no interest in anything.

I'll post a pic later as I have to go out in a minute. I'm gonna get some endlers on my way back today to hopefully perk him up a bit. I don't know if he's sick or sulking tbh. He in laid at the bottom of the tank most of the time and sometimes has a quick swim but that's it. He won't eat pellets, flake or bloodworms. He has no interest in anything. He didn't even look at the food. If I open the top he doesn't react. I'm pretty sure he'll be gone in a few days at this rate. I'm gutted tbh as this was all I wanted for ages.

give him a few days to eat. Just keep trying him, mine didn't eat to begin with, I have tweezer things I use for feeding my newts and I've used them with bloodworm sticking them in the fishes face. Once they realise where the food is it normally takes a few days for them to get the hang of it.

It does sound like he is sick. Although bettas can be lazy fish, it is not normal for them to lie about all the time, on their side. Especially for a young fish. The worst thing you can do is add more fish at this ime. If he has a disease the new fish may catch it, or they may bring in a disease unless you are going to quarantine them. At the very least they may stress him out, which could make him worse. Adding new fish may also cause a small spike in a newly cycled tank. I would give your betta more time to either recover or possibly die if he's very ill :(. If he shows more symptoms you might want to medicate the tank as well, and that wouldn't be good for any new fish.

He's still there, went to the shop and saw loads of stunning Bettas all happy and healty swimming about and curious. Mine is just laid at the back of the tank.

I went and got two endlers and so far so good. He's perked up and swimming around now. Hopefully he was just a bit lonely and this will be a turn around for him.

Betta fish are quite happy on their own as far as im aware, him moving around now could be caused by the stress of new fish in the tank not because hes happier so what you might feel is good, might be quite bad. Dont worry though im not saying thats the case, dont go on a guilt trip! Im just saying, being able to tell if a fish is happy or not isnt an art you learn very quickly.

Its a shame they dont have thumbs to give you the thumbs up :D Not like the Cravendale cats!
