I was watching Ramjet while he ate his dinner tonight and i think he has the beginning of white spot?!?!?!?!?

There is little spots on him. While they arent bright white i noticed them as the light changed. On his fins and on a few on his body. He has been a bit lethargic the last week. I would catch him just sitting in the bottom corner of the tank. Doing nothing. He would breathe....but thats it. No flapping or dancing about. When i moved he would come to life again

He seems ok right now apart from the spots. All though i just fed him and when he had gobbled all his food i turned the light out, so now its just the natural room light. He is swimming about merrily but then he will stop. Then swim again. He is now curled up down the back of the tank is a ball...sleeping...i think....so i went to say hi and now hes wide awake again...hes acting weird. His fins have started to look a bit ratty aswell and they seem to be a bit stuck together...not clamped to his body. More stuck to each other.

What are the signs of white spot? He would be about 18months old. Im wondering whether he is getting old and his immune system is going down hill?

He is in a 28ltr tank with two small bristel nose plecs.

Tank stats:
1x silk plant
2x caves
Gravel
Heater - 28degrees celcius
Lighting for 8hrs a day

Weekly water change. All the parametres are fine. I added a fraction of ph adjustment the other day but nothing to bad.

What can i use to treat for white spot???? Should i pre-empt white spot and treat?

Sounds like whitespot to me. Fish tend to be a little 'blue' when they have whitespot, and rather laze around. Whitespot is caused by stress to a fish or bad water conditions. I would do a water change of 25-50% and see how that goes for the Water state. And then use some ick or whitespot treatment (They are both the same thing but each shop calls it a different name) and keep an eye on him for the next couple of days after the treatment is done. And see where he goes from there. Good luck :fish:

I will do a water change after dinner. I can get to the aquarium tomorrow morning. He hasnt really been stressed lately. Maybe the occassional stalking by my cat but thats it. Hes just been blue for the past week or so. I have reading other threads and it sounds like white spot.

fortunately whitespot is pretty easy to cure...50% water change, carbon out of filter, introduce meds, up temp to 30C, increase aeration in the tank. should clear up in no time :good:

How will my plecs cope with the heat rise to 30? Ive knocked it up to 28degrees. It was on 26. Im going to swing past the fish place and pick up some meds on the way to work and do a 50% change tmw. i did a 40% change last night. Dont have time to do another one now as im running late for work as it is.

This is him...he just lays down and stays there....
It makes me sad....hes such a beautiful fish :( I dont want to lose him :-(

...there is something definantly wrong with him...

where abouts are the white areas, I cant see it on his pictures

He is a beautiful fish indeed, wishing you lots of luck with him.

I can't see any spots either??

Hes not bloated. The spots are tiny tiny. i only noticed them because i had my faced up to the glass.

I have had his light off all dAy because i was at work for nearlly 14hrs. I turned it on now and he is taking ages to come to life. :( you can see the white bits on the end of his fins.

He isnt looking well at all. I think im going to cry if he doesnt wake up! :(

He looks miserable. he his eyes are moving but nothing else..

i got some white spot treatment by Aquamasters but is it too late?????

Will me plecs be ok if i treat?

get some white spot treatment and get some meds in there! make sure his temp is around 27- 28 degrees check the label of the product for the plecs but white spot is contagious so it may help to treat everyone. If you are sure the plecs arent infected move them to another tank

I did a 40% water change yesterday and he hasnt improved. Ive added 3mls of Whitespot Remedy by Aquamaster. It says 5ml per 20ltr tank. It says to reduce dosage by half for tanks with scaleless fish etc so i put in 3mls. It says to repeat after 3days.

Hes just sitting there :-(

I havent moved the plecs incase they are infected as the water transfer wont be good for my other tank. His breathing is hardly happening. The tank was taken up to 28degrees yday from 26degrees. There is an air stone in there so the air is good.

Im afraid all you can do is give him the meds and hope he pulls through. Shame you cant move the plecs to give him a higher dose the main thing is you are doing what you can

agreed its too bad you cant rehome the plec for now...you could also try salt tonic if not for the plec...this also seems to help interrupt ich cycle. hope he makes it...fingers crossed.

I'm so sorry to hear about your betta and HOPE he pulls through!!!

I have a question, however. How did the white spot get in there? Have you recently added anything to the tank - new fish, plants, etc?

I have been told in the past that if your tank does not have ich, it won't develop until/unless something new carrying it is introduced and wondering if this is true.

Thank you in advance and, again, I sure hope he makes it!!!
