My Phileap is gone!!! :-(

I always check on him to see if he is ok coz he is my favourite fish and hides all the time. I went to check him just then and he was dead!

I can't help but blame myself. I was treating my tank for a fungus thing and it says on the med bottle to minimize the dose for scaleless and baby fish, which I did. I also have a 1.5 week old baby in the tank

He has white stuff all over him and it looks like some of the other fish has gotten to him :-(

Alot of you probably think I shouldn't be allowed to have an aquarium seeing as though I've been having a lot of trouble lately, but I love all of my fish and check each and every one of them is there everyday.

I'm just so sad about Phileap (yes I know that's not how you spell it, but I bought him an ornament house called Phileap Frogs Flat, so I named him Phileap). I use to hand feed him everyday! I loved that fish so much and I am absolutely gutted that he is gone. I actually think I might end up having a cry

I would love to get another one, but not just yet. Phileap will take a while to get over.

Do you think the fungus treatment would have been what killed him? I had him for about 3 weeks and he never showed any sign of being sick.

Sorry about the ramble on. I just needed to vent!

Here is a video of me feeding him. Towards the end my boyfriend moves the camera and tries to pull my top down, but you can't see anything! I tried to get rid of it but I don't know how...Sorry!

AWWWW Poor baby!!! I know how you feel, I just lost my Charlie (a betta) and I feel the same way!
If you were treating him and you reduced the dosage , then you've done what you could. When the fungus gets them, it usually has internal effects as well. He might have been sick before you saw the signs externally--in which case, the treatment was doomed from the start!

Sorry! and sorry for your loss! :-(

Sometimes, people just goes overboard with care and doping to the disadvantage of their fish.....I'm not saying that you're responsible for the departure of your beloved fish, but often, too much care can be detrimental to their well-being. I've (sucsessfully) kept many, many species and bred more than 35 different species in almost 40 years and very seldom resorted to commercial cures for common ailments. There are very few diseases which cannot be cured by simply raising your temperature temporarily (for three days) to 31 degrees Celsius and/or adding some coarse salt to the water.... never found an effective cure for dropsy though. The more I worry about the fish, the more I lose. It is however evident that you were very close to your deceased friend, so accept my condolences.

Thank you very much for your replies guys. It means a lot, even though I don't know you :)

It's good to know that others feel the same way about losing a fish. Now I don't feel crazy!

I'm definately going to get abother BGK because I think they are absolutely fantastic. This time I will have him in his own tank because it will get too difficult to treat the community tank with a scaless fish in there. Phileap was going to be my pride and joy fish and I was going to let him grow as big as he wanted and show him off to everyone.

Often when I look over at the tank, I can see one of my black mollies pecking the bottom rocks, with her fin swishing about and I think it's my Phileap out from hiding :-(

As they say, it is better to have loved and lossed than to never have loved at all

Thanks again guys!

I'm sorry for your loss. I love BGK's. I had one for a while, too. I would love to have a BGK species tank, but I don't have the room to set up a big enough one.
