Well I knew she was due, it had been 28-29 days since her last batch of fry. I put her in the other tank a few days ahead of time so she could get acclimated, and she seemed pretty happy. Lots of plants, both planted and surface floating, for the fry to hide in. I shut the light off last night with a feeling that it was going to be today. Woke up this morning, rushed in to see....only 2 fry, and momma eating everything in sight. Grah!

I don't remember having this issue when I had guppies or platies...are swords just crappy parents or am I just having bad luck?

Most livebearers will eat their young, including gups and platies. Dunno why your previous gups and platies didnt do that :dunno:

P.T.

It is possible that once you remove her other fry will come out of hiding once the threat is gone. She's really not a bad parent - just doing what comes natural...

As you say. Removed her this am and peeked in the tank tonight and counted 7 little ones. 7 out of how many, who knows, but 7 is good. :)

All but one of my Balloon belly molies lives with there fry in the fry tank. But got one that swims hers to death. She don't eat them she just chases them around till they fall dead to the bottom of the tank. Got one Mickey platy they can live with her fry and one that eats them. All the guppies I have ever had will eat there fry there tank mates fry. So I guess what is the right answer for one fish don't work here.
