Well, it was only a matter of time before they did the deed.
They have been in the tank around a month or so now, moved from my dads.
As he mixed them with malawis
So, anybody have experiance with these?
Im guessing a w/c everyday is now in order.
My dad is really chuffed, he now is going to get rid of his malawis and have a jewel tank.
Little does he know its the first time they have bred, so not likely to be successful.

you could be lucky, my lfs had a breeding pair, first batch and they raised them and kept a few severums at bay but killed two severums, they brought up around 40+ to adulthood :good:

good luck mate, they are a beautiful cichlid when they have the breeding dress on...jewel cichlids however are oldworld ;)

You dad had them in the right tank, an old world tank. They are not from the new world. I don't see how mixing them with Malawis is a bad idea. I hope your babies come out to be okay. Have fun as a new father. :good:

Oh there old world?
Wow. I always thought they was new world.
Although I did tell my dad the reason they attacked the others, was because they were in breeding mode.
I love it when they go deep red, such a beautiful site.

They are all bunched up atm in the bottom of the tank, with there father protecting them.
Jay - got any advise for me matey? Water changes, feeding, etc etc.

i fed mine on microworms untill they where big enough for crushed flake and stuff mate they love them ive only done 2 water changes with them in all this time and they are fine the less disturbance the better imo

Usually you feed fry what the parents eat but crushed up nice and fine. They do fine on newly hatched brine shrimp.

Hmm, I will crush up the malawi pellets nice and fine as much as I can then.

Well, theres definatly no harm in trying matey.
Im not going to seperate them from the parents etc.
Im one to sit back and "let nature take its cause".

My thoughts are that fry will grow quicker on higher protein food. Finely crushed adult food will do no harm though.
