I got 4 female guppies, 1 male, and 2 Ivory mystery snails from the pet store. I am letting them soak right now. I am naming the male Piper and the 2 mystery snails Ivan and Lilliana.

I thought, as per the betta thread, that you weren't going to buy anymore fish until you had all your test kits and such, and was able to keep the bettas alive?

I have never cycled my tanks, and have never had die-offs from it

All tanks actually cycle in some form. Well actually the filter cycles. I wouldn't mislead people into thinking it's a good thing to buy a tank, fill it up and wang some fish in.

I've put tanks together in a jif; in emergencies, without cycleing properly. This could cause some problems in regards to ammonia spikes, but hardier fish (like guppys) seem to take it fairly well. I wouldn't recommend it if it can be avoided.

il bet she didnt get the test kit eather. suppots the theary that she doesnt listen to what anyone says on here.

It annoys me simply because I've just gone through hell trying to treat two betta's, and lost one of them through it. While buying a simple test kit is too difficult for this girl. :<

Poor fish.

I dont have a test kit and my fish are fine, even though i would greatly appreciate one. I am too young to have a job so it is hard to keep up with everything and when i do get money, i have to use it to keep the existing tanks running. I also have a lfs check it when i think somthing is wrong.

I am going to stop posting till Monday and when I come back I will have a test kit, Maybe not a liqiud one, But I will have one and I will show you all how bad of a person I am. I will have a test kit, and I will have my stats and I will show you guys.

If you get strips (I strongly encourage you to get liquid as they are cheaper in the long run), make sure you get an ammonia kit. The 5 in 1 kits don't test for ammonia and that is THE most important thing you need to be testing for from the start. Also, if you bought fish today and don't get a test kit ill Monday (5 days away), don't be surprised to find the ammonia off the chart when you do test.

It depends how much the liqiud costs because if it is $30 then I cant get it.
