I've never seen something like this- I swear my coffee mug holds more water than this thing! I saw the ad while in the store and a manager overheard my complaining to my friend. The manager decided to butt-in and inform me that Betta's are happiest in small spaces, anyone who tells me they need *gasp* filtration or *SHOCK AND HORROR* a heater is just trying to sell me things I don't need. I'll let you guys imagine how THAT conversation went... I feel horrible for the Bettas that get suck in such a prison!

trust me they have betta bowls at my lfs that are the same size as the cups! that would be cool if the bowl was bigger.

I have seen breeders with rows and rows of jars,I always thought it was cruel but.......they do it so i cant really say anything about it..what are their natural habitats....

If you took the ornaments out, there will probably be 1g give or take a few bits. Sometimes, I just find it very stupid for people to say things about managers and employees at certain LFS. There really isn't a need to call them pathetic idiots with no brains. Seriously, some employees do know things about fish but its not their call to decide whats in their inventory. There are plenty of places full of knowledgable people even in places like PetCo. They might not be experts in like betta genetics and such but store rules, they're not in a place to change them.

EDIT: What I said I meant in general. Not targetting anyone here.

Their natural habitats are rice paddies and marshy areas -- not very deep, but lots and lots of horizontal swimming space, at least during most of the year.

If I remember correctly from an old post, the size of that particular container is actually pretty close to a gallon. Not ideal of course, but there are many out there that are far worse, like this little number, which holds about a quart:

EDIT: Absolutely, Wisperian :nod:. We carry tiny quart bowls at my work, but none of us recommend them and actually try to steer customers away from them, even the managers... we have them in stock not because the employees are stupid, but because the customers are stupid enough for there to be a demand for them.

The thing I was more or less annoyed with was the fact that the guy butted into my conversation to argue with me! That was my biggest annoyence, as I wasn't looking for advice or anything about my betta- I was in the rat/small pet section with my friend.

Edit: Wisperian- don't worry, not taken offensively ;-}

if it were quite abit bigger it would be cool though lol hmm how to put a filter in it though hmmm that would be the hard part

The links on discus lover and snirrs are awful! They dont even have lids, can you imagine. Youd come home each day not knowing if youd find your betta all dried up on the table! Eugh the mind boggles how people think thats a great betta tank! -_-

You dont really need a filter for smaller tanks if you do water changes on a steady basis

At least all of them aren't as bad as this:

And yes I have seen it in person. I'm not buying anything from the store that would actually try and sell this. The ring is too small for a 3 month old betta...forget if you try to put a CT or anything like that in there....

And where's the air surface???
