i was at my lfs in march when i was picking up my new zeke jr. when i noticed something horrible. there was a tank with DYED PARROT FISH dyed pink, blue, green, you name it! and they even had DYED TIGER BARBS dyed red! its just plain horrible! why do people even do this! i think that fish are beautiful just how they are. and someone even posted a topic about a TATTOOED gourami! i think this is wrong and very very bad! im going to have a talk with those lfs! :shout:

why do you think these people do this anyways?

People do it too make the fish look "More Attractive" But i think its disgusting. Fish are beautiful animals and look stunning in so many different ways.

They do the same thing with Baby Chickens in China die them while there eggs and then they come out funky colours.

Shocking in my opinion.

this is an easy question to answer... there is a market for it. If there wasn't a market for it, no one would produce them. All you can do is vote with your dollar and try to encourage as many other people to vote with their dollar by refusing to buy these as possible.

The tough thing to remember here is that we -- the fish forum members -- are very, very small minority of the number of people who buy and own fish. It is not easy to get the word out to the general fish buying population.

Its sad of course, but tell me, if you were in with your children or just getting into fishkeeping any knew very little about it would you or your children want the more common colours or the brighter colours. Especially not knowing any better or plain and simply not caring.

There's obviously a demand for them so the lfs's are going to supply that demand. Like what has been said so many times on this forum, the lfs are there to make money.

I personally wouldn't purchase any though.

the only kind that i really do like are glofish, but even so, they do seem a little shaky. it was just some batches of eggs a while ago that had changed genes. but tatooing is not right and by no means is dying, either.

I would not class this as "The Best One" of any LFS if they were to sell these. :blink:

i saw some 'green tetra' in an lfs, one that i have suspected of selling dyed red barbs before. they were the same shape as black widow tetra, but a bit larger and albino/pale colour but with apple green tinge along its back and round its head and fins. cannot find anything that looks like it on the internet, any ideas ?

i have to admit they looked very nice, but soon as i saw them i suspected something odd.

there is the neon tetra and the neon green rasbora, i don't think the rasbora is a dyed fish

Disgusting isnt it? Never ceases to amaze me how badly anyone can treat a fish and not only get away with it but actually make money out of it too! :no:
