So I was doing my weekly visit to the local PetCo and they had more Juliis! Well at least that's what they label them as but they're really False Juliis. I added them to my 20 gallon sand tank and they seem to be doing well.

There were 2 more in the same tank at the store so my question is, should I buy the other 2 for a total of 7? I would add just one more but then there would only be 1 lonely Cory left in the store's tank.................

Cories should really be kept in groups of a least six, so a group of seven would be nice.

Tbh, I wouldnt worry about one cory being lonely left at the store. Back when I was cycling my tank, I had my heart set on those same cories. I kept seeing their numbers go down and down at the LFS, until they had six left, the exact same amount I wanted. I panicked they were going to sell and asked the shopkeeper to reserve them for me even though I hadn't finished my cycle yet. Ended up having to cut my qualifying week short etc etc, and went back to get my cories the next week, so, so glad that I'd gone in the LFS when I had and seen that they only had six left.

Went back a week or two later, and they had dozens of them. When numbers get low, they order more in. I wouldn't worry about it.

get all three and make it eight :)

They only have 2 left...........at least that's what they had yesterday. I plan on returning to the store on my way home from work & hopefully they're still there.

Hey, what temp do you keep your tank at for your Corys? Mine is currently around 75-76 degrees and they seem happy.

The more the merrier.

Well I knew that, but I don;'t want to overload the tank. It's the 20 gallon sand tank in my signature. The Molly Fry are being moved out soon as they're getting too big and I may give the Glowlights to my father when his tank is cycled.

My tank temperature is generally 24-25 degrees celcius. The cories would be fine at slightly lower temperatures though I'm keeping them in a community tank with other fish that wouldnt be so tolerant.

Thanks. Some other poster was telling me that these Corys need to be at a much lower temp and he put in a link to a catfish site backing that temp up. I've researched multiple other sites that say the temp should be around 72-79 degree F, which puts the average right at 75.5 degrees F.

A Google search reveals a bunch of sites with massively varying "information" on what kind of temp these cories should be kept at. I've not kept cories at any other temperature so can't say whether they'd behave any differently, but I've found that my cories seem perfectly happy and active at 24-25oC

That might well have been me, C. trilineatus in the wild almost experience the same temps as Peppered, with a low of 16C (as opposed to true Julii being found in water with little seaonal variation of 23-25C). You will not get truer profiles on catfish than those found at Planetcatfish, regardless of whether it is the only site giving noticeably low temps to other sites or not.

Yes, it was def. you! :good:

And that is true also, that site is the only site that recommends such a low temperature. I'm sure some consideration is taken for the fact that these fish are now domesticated and used to a different, more moderate temp than they have in the wild. I mean we're talking about a swing of 10 degrees! That's significant. I can't confirm or deny the accuracy of PlanetCatfish.com but I have yet to find a similar match anywhere else.
