I Am The Plant Killer :-(

I'm trying I'm trying ! They have sent me far more than I ordered tho 25 X hygrophilia difformis I only asked for 5 lol

Ill post pics of what I have left when I'm done see if anyone wants them Im cramming in as much as I can without making it look a total mess.

90% of it is now planted Ill get pics once water settles tommorow. I removed the carbon from the filter yesterday and added more bio-media (I actually quite like the tanins from the bogwood altho theres not that much)

The 'Mini' Amazon Swords are Echinodorus tenellus which apparently do stay fairly small so ive kept them nearer the front/mid.

Just have to hope it doesn't look to crammed. If it does i'm blaming you PDSimon !

Getting my new super duper camera tommorow while away for the weekend so when im back on sunday ill have new high def pics of all the different half dead plants Im currently stocking

Just a few quick pics on the old camera of my planting disasters in the making

Main issues with left side of tank currently are

1) Baby Amazon Swords haves some areas of yellow/brown discolouration on leaves

2) The plant i *think* the bacopa monerii is reaching for the light.

Sorry I think you answered it, but any echinodorus plant such as the swords (if they are actually a sword plant?) will shed all its outer leaves, so take them all off :good:

the parcula thats under those leaves will probably die or not grow much as its quite shaded under there. The stuff to the left looks better.

I'm pretty sure the with bacopa, like with the difformis you can just cut the bottom and replant it, it may loose its lower leaves if you do that though.

Main issues with Right side of tank

1) I can't remember many of the plant names

2) The cambomba carolina does ok till it gets taller then top half turns to mush

3) The red thing looks in such bad health (from delivery no worse since its been in tank) Leaves lacking colour in somecases

4) Amazon Swords as in left half show some yellow/brown patches on leaves

Im impressed you killed elodea i hate that stuff had in my tank grew like wildfire took it out put in bucket with trimming and it kept growing, but stick with it you will get there i just planted a load what died or looked crap got removed and what was good stayed then ordered more.

Trust me there isn't a aquatic plant i cant kill

Next water change im hauling every single plant out and try and come up with a co-ordinated look rather than the everything randomly shoved in look I have atm. Afer wasting easily £40 on various bundles the main issue I have with the tank is the stuff thats left is merely what didnt die rather than what I actually wanted.

The Red thing inbetween the 2 explosion holes is now dead but tbh it looked dead when it arrived I should have photographed it and sent it back. Talking of photos I'll hopefully be ordering my swish new Camera tommorow so might be able to start posting some decent pics where things can actually be identified.

Apparently easycarbo can kill the elodea? Its the same with my vallis, I bought a big pot of it and it all died.

most red plants will die as they require more light (and therefore more co2). Just remember that each time you move the plant its got to re-establish itself!

Talking of roots a couple of bits of the Hygrophilia came loose while i was away so I replanted them what i did notice however is no evidence of any start to rooting rather the part of the stem that was in the sand had gone brown. A few (maybe 1 or 2 every other stem) look almost white in colour.

I'm not to bothered about the red plant It was in such shabby shape it would probably have struggled to hang on in any tank let alone a low tech one during a cycle.

Fair point about moving them btw maybe i'll do it on paper for now ;p Not adding anymore plants till the cycle is finished in any case.

I don't mind admitting tho I do find it worrying that even after being told most plants will still grow in a low light tank that I'm still able to kill so many inc Elodea

What's the tank temp? Elodea doesn't like warm temps much. It does well with water in the mid 60s. That, perhaps coupled with the easycarbo, may not be helping it. I don't use the stuff. I tried Excel once, and it smelled like rotten eggs, so I put it away. Almost killed my A. reineckii too.

Plant killer, How big is your tank?
