Just did a 50% wc on my tank with my Albino tiger Oscar & Raphael Cats in it...... I forgot to turn off the heater & it blew up! thought i'd share my stupidity with you all! note to all..... Don't be a pond life.... switch the heater off before you change water! lol

hehe i almost did that. *sniff* *sniff* something smells hot ::smack forehead:: /me runs to unplug the heater. S'ok it happens thanks for sharing so we know what happens if we dont make it to the plug in time :*)

 Not funny really, are you and the fish in one peice, another trip to the lfs.

All the fish survived... just my pride is a lil damaged! After everything with my other tanks at the moment (ugh ich) i've had enough of problems!

i didn't even notice til i started putting the fresh water back in...... the heater looked like it had an air stone in it, i thought 'Hey this isn't right' promptly ushered the oscar to the other end of the tank whilst i put a new one in! Thank god i had a spare, i'd have really been messed up otherwise, it was evening, no lfs open!

I did the same thing mate last year... I rushed to the pet shop and got a new one I have never for got to turn my heater off agen.

dont worrie u learn from ya mistakes.

Grayshark

found this I enjoyed reding it.Another heater story

i always forget to turn my heater off and turn it off 5 minutes into a water change. luckly no explosions yet.at least you and the fish are not injured by it

thats why i know poscession my heaters so unless i do a huge change they stay below water at all time.

I have never had that problem. I never turn mine off. Mind you, the time that the water is down is very minimal, and the water goes in at the same temperature.

Sucks for your luck though.

I did that with my first 10 gallon. Had to run out and buy a new one. My boyfriend bought one where it doesn't crack if left out of the water.

thats weird, maybe its a different type of heater all of you guys use, because mine can go out of water and no crack or blow up -_-

DD

I did exactly the same thing last week, I have a 20g in my classroom and some children were helping me do the water change

"whats that smell miss?"

trouble was just as i worked out what the burning smell was one of the other children was gently pouring some water back in the tank, fotunatly the heater had a cage around it so after the smash the broken glass stayed in the cage and not in the tank.

boy did i feel stupid when they went back to their own class to tell all their classmates what had happened :*)
