I think most of us have done that at one time or another!!!! I always place my heater as low as i can get it to go... so when i do water changes it don't really matter.
Yeah been there done that, sliced my fingers up in the process, then if i wasnt feelin dumb already, whent to pick it up and recieved blisters for my troubles..............
