They are probably breeding. Give them a cave made of pvc pipe to breed in.
Okay....this makes sense.In my experience, peacock gudgeons choose the tightest of places to breed in, rejecting larger 'caves' and choosing small ones. Some of the places mine bred wouldn't even fit the male and female inside at the same time.
I have also read that males will physically push a female into his chosen cave, though I never saw mine doing that.
