Hows My Tank

[rrfreak]

In my 20 gallon fish tank, i have:
3 decorations (flowers, a large bell, A dragon)
3 female guppies
4 male guppies
1 albino cory catfish
I have 2 breeding nets in the tank, 1 for the mother, and 1 for the fry

Do you have any suggestions?

You need more female guppies although I'm not sure your tank size will allow it without being overstocked.

Guppies should be kept at the ratio of 2 females to every male, so ideally you should have 8 females if you have 4 males.
Cory's should be kept in groups of 6 or more, you can get away with groups of 4.

Is your tank new? cycled?

are you sure that its that number of each? im only asking as i forgot when i got back from the fish shop which was which,you have plenty of room BUT you say that you have a net for mum n babies, i wouldnt rec u let the tank get over run with guppies, they are beautiful, but they inbreed etc ( in some cases this is ok) in 3 months u could hav3 120 babies alone

cories need company, 1 wont be happy

i see you getting excited in another thread about the femal gupy having babies?

have you put her n a net?if so keep her well fed ( dont pollute of corse),keep an eye on the levels ( u DO have a testing kit right??)

once free in the tank the fry will ( not this week obviously..) produce babies after babies >>>> bang goes yor tank space

im not saying that this is a bad thing AT ALL but consideration must be made for the futer life of the little ones too,and an over stocked tanks isnt the way to go

maybe have a browse on ebay for a gro out tank that you can grow them till they can be echanged at the fish store for credit/goods

Yes as shelagh says, you will need to think about getting another tank if you are wishing to breed the guppies as they will produce a large number of fry in a short space of time, although its very unlikely all will survive, but they will need their own space to grow.

The only way to stop this would be to keep all the same sex guppies, either all males or all females.
