Hi people.
Someone on here is having my beautiful 3 Plecs and is coming from Leicester to collect them (about 45min drive) problem is they are quite big and I have no idea on transporting fish as the last time I did they were in small plastic bags. Questions are:

1) How do you transport fish to stop them dying?
2) Where do you get the products from, I tried our local fish store and they wanted £17.99 for a poly box  .
3) Do you just fill the poly box with water? or put the bags into the poly box?
4) I have brought oxgen tablets, will they do for the journey?

Thanks! :good:

I put my fish in a 5 gal bucket and filled it 50-66% full with water. Drilled some small holes in the lid for gas exchange and went on my way. The fish were about 2 inches SL and I only had a few at that point so you may need a bigger bucket. They were in there for about 8 hours and 450 miles and were fine. A bit shy when they were rehomed, but unhurt.

For a 45 min drive, the plastic bags like the LFS uses should be fine. You just need ones of adequate size since it's really not that far.

Ide double bsg too, better safe than sorry, And make sure there its lots and lots of air in the bags

Depends on the size of the fish, if it's really big i would suggest using a rubbermaid tub and use a battery powered air pump.

3 Large plecs all about 6" - 7" long.

So what are these poly boxes for do you fill them with water?

Would a large bucket and clingfilm as a lid be suitable?
Or a large plastic box?

Will the oxgen tablets be suitable?

I can stick the mains pump into the bucket or plastic box until the lady arrives. :/

My fish are leaving :-(

Ya with that size fish i would go for a large plastic box, tell her to add the o2 tablets halfway through the journey.

For large fish a cooler works well, it maintains heat, has adequate space, and has a lid. For a 45 minute drive you won't need a pump, O2 tabs, or anything like that. I've seen large plecs, 12"+, in a cooler for hours at auctions, they do just fine. I had my 15" plec in a cooler for a few hours when I picked up the fish, tank, and stand.
