I seem to remember that there is a is a very good reason not to use britta water filters. Unfortunately I cant remeber if what that reason was and if it turned out to be true though (was something to do with the way they softened water if I remeber correctly).
If the RO water costs that much locally just get a cheap RO unit. Check Ebay you can probably get a 3 stage unit for under £50
