aquarium and want to breed my sword-tails. I have one male and two female, so I suppose its a good combination. I also have a small breeding tank, which I can use for her to give birth, but my problem is, when do I know that I should move her into it?
I know about the gravid spot and all that, yes she is certainly pregnant, but what behaviour should I be looking for to show that she will give birth in the next 24-48 hours??? Any answers or recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Post a picture and we can tell you if she is near birth or not!
Main signs:
Hiding away
Her belly will square off (she will look like a cube)
Hanging around the filter/heater
Male chasing her
She is chasing other fish
Not eating (although this is only sometimes the case)
Her anal opening might look bigger than usual (to let fry out)
Gravid spot might get darker
Can you see what I mean, when she squares off the bottom of her belly looks flat, she looks like a cube:
