hey all,
I have insulated my fish room and i have a gas heater in there, i was wanting to run it of a thermostat though a couple of people have told me that u cannot hook it up to gas! my question is: How do i connect a gas heater up to a thermostat to control the heat in my fish room?

some of the bigger gas heaters have a built in thermostat but most don't.
We used to just try the heater out and see how warm the room stayed. Then we ran it on high, medium or low, depending on the room and heater being used. If we were expecting a really cold night we might up the temp a bit but didn't normally have too many fluctuations.

If you aren't using a flued heater then you need to open the door of the fishroom up each day and allow some clean air in otherwise you get a build up of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the room.
The CO doesn't get into water but can cause you to fall asleep if you spend too much time in the rood with the door shut.
The CO2 can build up and cause deformities in fry.

what does everyone else do if using a heater to heat your fish room?

atm i am running 13 heaters

my power bill is over $2000AUD, i need to hook my heater up to a thermostat some how, can someone please help me?

I think you will need to get in a professional gas fitter and have them install one for you.

How did you manage to get a $2000 power bill? Was your fishroom outside and not insulated.

have you got real snug fitting seals around the door. Any little gap will allow cold air to come in and the hot air out. We used rubber strips and ran them aournd the doors frame and across the bottom.

You should see a huge difference in your next power bill now it's insulated.
