Hello everyone,

BigC , I know you can best respond to this, anyone else critic/opinion is welcomed :) .

I wanted to ask how to collect and store Notho Rachovi 98 eggs, If i dont have peat.

I have collected small patches of debris/detritus from corners of the tank (its heavily planted), Now this debris patch also has LOTS of eggs, some eggs have grown fungus and i am trying to remove them.

Now can I collect this patch in coconut husk powder, keep it warm and moist for sometime and then try wetting it? how long should i keep?

Your excellent source of TFF Killifish resource has paused at Notho Rachovii , I feel like i can contribute some to the documentation too.

Now about feeding this fish.

I bought some dry flakes for this fish and dried bloodworm packet, it seems ONLY females will venture up to surface to eat this dry flakes etc, the males are not interested at all. so I have given up feeding this.

Now i only feed bloodworms and tubifex worms (live), the killies love it, is this good way to feed them ? or they need something more? the killies look gorgeous fat and happy but I wanted a expert opinion.

You best get some peat my man LOL
Go to B&Q look for peat pellets in the indoor plant section
They look like this
http://www.victoryseeds.com/information/images/seed_starting/peat_pellet_close.jpg
Leave 1 pellet to soak in water for a while, It will expand and sink.
Lift this out and squeeze all the water out until it's the consistency of rolling tobacco then place your eggs into this.
and store in a warm place until their specific diapause has lapsed, keep checking the eggs periodically.
You can use these in a jam pot for an actual spawning medium, much easier to collect the eggs.

and Daphnia
and Whiteworm
and Grindalworm
and vestigal winged Fruitfly

Tada tada tada

Take your tub of flake food out to the bottom of your garden and toss it as far over your boundary fence as possible....... Not a good food for killifish my friend

Regards
C

PS I will get around to finishing those articles as and when I get the time.

at start, when i started reading "take the tub of flake food" i got all excited that I will be getting some ancient secret on how to prepare special food for killies..

Doh` lolz.

Okay, regarding the peat, I am in Mumbai India, so its kinda impossible for me to find what you suggested, is this okay ? >> Eheim Torf Pellets - Peat http://indiapetstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_28&products_id=892

Coir? didnt get you, what is it?

I was in a pet store yesterday and they're selling Tarantula peat... Looks very much like the stuff I got my Killi eggs in... is this ok???..I bought a pack of that and then also bark clippings for reptiles which I think would be fine to but into a filter to soften the water???.... Am I right??....

I think the best thing for you to do was to give me some hint as to what a garden centre in India would stock as specialist substrate for plants. You need something like peat as most annual eggs are not sticky and dont adhere to things. The substrate needs to be able to hold a certain amount of water after it has been squeezed and stay moist when placed into a bag for incubation. also and more importantly it should contain no pesticides or chemicals.

C

Okay, i got the idea, needs to hold moisture. I will be visiting a big store this weekend, lets see. Thanks C :)
