I have breed swordtails twice, however none of my other fish have ever breed. I have 2 gouramis, 4 tiger barbs, 5 neon tetras, 8 swordtails (7 are about 6 months old), and 2 yoyo fish. I cant tell whether i have females or males? Do i have to change the water conditions for breeding to occur?

Most of those fish are quite hard to breed in an aquarium. However some have managed it.

You will have to research the species of fish breeding habits:

Gouramis are bubble nest builder

Barbs and tetra are egg scatters

Males are normally smaller than females which are often slightly larger and more rounded. Gourami females are duller in colour and smaller.

As sword tails are Livebearers it is quite easy for them to spawn as it has a better survive rate until the end.

neons are one of the hardest fish to breed....so i wouldn't plan on trying them...plus you need more to have a happy shoal.

tiger barbs are also nearly impossible...again, you have way too small of a shoal...the more the better due to their aggressive tendencies - - more barbs means more fish to spread any aggression out between.

gouramis are a hit or miss...you need prime conditions for the male to make a bubble nest that will suit the female...and they need their own tank or your other fish will quickly eat the young if they manage to hatch.

swordtails should breed on their own if they like the conditions...

to be honest I am not sure about the yoyos.

regardless....if you want a chance of any of the breeding...you should separate that species into its own tank to reduce stress and protect any eggs/young if you do have them
