How high of a temperature are we talking here? Some fish do like it warmer, I know from experience that angels will do quite well in temps as high as the low 90's F. Warmer water holds less O2, so you will have to have increased aeration in a tank that is warmer than usual.

Explain how I bred platys outdoors in a 150 gallon tub that would vary from the mid 80'sF in the heat of summer to the mid 70'sF by morning. A few times it got near 90F when I didn't think it would get that hot during the day & left the styro top off. Floating plants would reduce surface current in spots, the fry had no problem hanging out there, they would all swim through these areas during feeding time. I'm sure after work some of these spots were beyond 90F.

This went on during the summer.

I ran it into November, outdoor temperatures were approaching freezing. The heater would read 77F, as would the thermometer. There were cooler spots near the corners, some of which I'm sure were approaching 60F.

Stable temperature? No. Anybody need platys? I have a 40 inside loaded with the ones I haven't auctioned, sold, or given away.

He isnt going to be using 150 gallons of water for a start... and the temp range will be a LOT higher !

my uncle has a tank in his very large all glass conservatory (he does have roof blinds )
240ltr juwel
he has a blacked out back ground inside white on outside and that weird aluminum stuff inbetween the 2 layers of background as an insulater , the background is around the sides of the tank aswell
he runs 2x300w heaters in the tank and an aquarium chiller in the summer months - he has a seperate cooler thermostate linked to the chiller to try and keep temp stable it sort of works with the heaters and coolers he said his temp varies by about 4 degrees at the most
the cooler and thermostat was expensive cost over £200 for both

he has been running the tank there for a few years with no major problems since fitting the cooler 3-4 years ago
he has lots of different cichlids in there - dont ask me which ones i only swithched to tropical from years of cold in september

so yes it can work but it is expensive and takes planning

I was actually looking for a number on that temperature. What is your outdoor relative humidity on hot days?

the air temp can be upto 30 in the summer but not very often in the UK - he has measures 42 inside the conservatory if that helps

in out conservatory it will go up to 90F - 100F on a hot summers day max.

Angels can handle temperatures into the low 90'sF with no problem. Discus can handle temps just about as high, but are not a fish you want to start out with.

Chillers are expensive, bath fans are not nearly so. Situate the tank near a side where you can install a bath fan, this required an opening large enough for a dryer vent. Install the fan backwards, hook a dryer flex line from the fan to right above the tank. Through evaporation & cooler air from outside you will keep the tank at a more than reasonable temp for angels, and perhaps other fish.

This is a $40 solution, cheaper than a chiller, cheaper to run as well. I found one on sale for $12 a few years back, the short run of line & vent set me back about $25. This removes the humidity from my fish room. Since you will only need this during the heat of the day you can hook it up to a timer.

ok, thanks for all your help but i have decided not to have a fish tank in my conservatory, i am going to moove some furnature in my bedroom and have a 65 litre maybe smaller. the temperature in my room is the same all the time and has one large window so i will have to place some sticky picture thing around the side of the tank , book arrived today aswell, " A quick and easy guide to keeping tropical fish" got some good advice in there just gonna do my homework before i buy my tank and fish in the new year
