I got me a boy krib and popped him in with one of my girls on Saturday afternoon. He disappeared straight into a cave. My girl was in there too, i think! Then she came out for a while, had some food, chased a few tetras :) Today, I couldn't see either fish, but tonight, my girl has barricaded herself in the cave, and the boy has been banished. he is staying nearby looking worried! I only have some baby tetras and a giant danio in with them at the mo, and they will be moving out to my big tank next weekend. Is it possible that they have spawned already? :S

Yeah, that is certainly behaviour of breeding. Kribs actually do "Get a room". If this is the first time, be prepared, your fry might not survive. Kribs practice to be parents, so I find it fascinating to watch them learn to be parents

Wooo! Fast mover, my girl :p I am just so pleased that they have accepted each other! So, can anyone tell me timescales now? I know I can read up on it if I look around.... but I am lazy :p And I don't have too much time tonight, and I am sooo excited!

Okay, once the eggs are layed, it will take about 3 days to hatch, and then it will take another 3-4 days before they become freee swimming.

woooooooooo! Can't wait, I hope this works out! :) Poor little Spot, when I feed the others, she sticks her mouth out of a small hole in her coconut cave... lol. Last night I got some flakes in a turkey baster and popped a few in for her :p

Quick question - should I remove the giant danio and tetras from the tank before the babies hatch? I guess the tetras are no threat to them but the giant danio might be? Problem is, I am still observing them for signs of disease before adding them to my main tank, and the only other tank I have has anti internal bacteria meds in plus a dwarf gourami with an ulcer....

I would because the kribs are more of a threat. They will attack and try to kill those tetras and danios.

:S Got home tonight and we are missing 3 tetras... had a feeling someone might be getting a taste for them so I have moved them into the hospital tank with the gourami. Giant danio is still there though - he is almost as long as the male krib and very fast moving. I think he will be OK. However, Spot has come out of her cave.... there is still gravel at the entrance though. She went back in - do you think the eggs are still there???? I thought she would stay in there until they had hatched. She did chase the male away from the cave whilst she was out....

There probably still there. My female Jewel Cichlid( eggs hatched about 5 days ago) she left them to eat once and a while. And the eggs still hatched.

I'll just have to be patient then, and see what happens! I will keep an eye on the giant danio, he seems OK right now and is a good size....

Spot is still fiercely defending the cave so fingers crossed! Buying some fry food today in preparation. Ginat danio seems fine, he is wisely sticking to the top part of the tank. Mr Krib is keeping well away too, lounging under some rocks! :p Spot rules that tank right now!
