Yes you can do it once a month. At least thats what I've been told and I vacum clean my tank about 1 every 2 months.

I wish I was cool enough to do it once a week...but I usually do it every 2 weeks.

that is what I have always done.. but then again, I have never had a tank stocked to the max - unless of course you count one oscar in a 55 gal and it was a bit tight :*)

you can get away with once a month for some tanks but it really comes down to the difference between your fish thriving and merely surviving.
anything over once a month (for normally stocked tanks) imo is not sufficient.

who the heck voted never?

hey, well thats cool! I love opinions...thats what this place is for, heh?? I dont have any friends that keep tanks and Ive never thought about joining a forum to spend time with people who did until now. I have always been the only person I ever knew with a tank - if you can believe that! People used to think my Oscar was something from a sci-fi magazine..

After joining this place and talking to others and seeing how they do things and what others think, its actually given me some much needed advice and knowledge - I certainly plan on doing cleanings and water changes more often. :)

edited for typos.. :*)
