How many watts per gallon should you or do you have for your tank? I'm just curious because I realized that I have 2 incandescent lights on my tank, each is 25 watts, so, 50 watts in a 10 gallon tank. Is that too much?

Incandescents are good for two things, seeing your fish and heating the tank. Twenty watts of fluorescent would be all you need for a low tech plant tank, without the heating issue. Plus on average they last about ten times longer.

I definitely noticed the heating the tank thing, I couldn't figure out why my tank kept getting so hot, I had to turn down my heater a good bit
