I've only just noticed this topic, so sorry to jump in at the end - and I haven't had time to read every post. I've got to go out - damn work, interferes with my fishkeeping

I've kept pygmy cories in groups of 4 to 6 and I currently have 12. I think in their case it's worth stretching the inch per gallon rule because they so enjoy each other's company. I believe they are a true shoaling fish - rather than just gregarious like other cories. When you only have a few you just never see them - they hide away. When you have at least six they swim about together. My originals are about a year old and they are still only about half an inch long - but I'm not saying they won't get bigger eventually.

The important thing is to keep the substrate very clean.

edit: P.S You should have seen the excitement when I added the new six to the original six!!

Maybe I will get 5 and if they seem like they are happy I will leave it otherwise I could stretch to 6.
